Common Men's Disorders Of Joggerphimosis And Bubble Bath Cystitis
A lot of exercise and sports undoubtedly belong to a healthy lifestyle. But not a few strength athletes risk ̶ z. For example, by taking anabolic steroids ̶ impotence, infertility, kidney damage and breast growth. "The German Society for Urology e.V. (DGU) has been warning for a long time about the consequences of doping in German gyms," says Prof. Dr. med. med. Christian Wülfing, press spokesman of the DGU. Sport and leisure, however, also harbor unforeseen dangers on this side of prohibited substances. One has to think of the consequences of unsuitable sportswear, of spa baths or trends to intimate piercings and the now very widespread Intimrasur.
Medication abuse in performance and weight training is not new, but many recreational athletes have discovered the performance-enhancing drugs and the pain-relieving drugs for themselves. An estimated between 200,000 and 400,000 strength athletes in Germany rely on steroids and anabolic steroids; the unreported figure should be much higher. The side effects can be devastating for the man. "Steroid acne, deficiencies and even depression are the mildest consequences of steroid abuse," says Prof. Wülfing.
Diseases of the testicles or penis should always be checked with a specialist in urology in order to avoid long-term damage. Picture: mast3r - fotoliaMen usually find their way to the urologist only when they grow breasts (the so-called gynecomastia) or when erectile dysfunction occur. "The problem of misuse of performance-enhancing substances in the sports and leisure sector can not be solved by the urologists and their educational efforts alone. Here, above all, politicians are called upon to do more for prevention in schools and to dry up the black markets for anabolic steroids ", summarizes Prof. Wülfing.
Although the anabolic steroids abuse is certainly the biggest problem from the urological point of view in the sports and leisure area, there are other dangers lurking there. Intimate care plays a special role here. Showering is part of the program for most people after sports. "Daily showering with aggressive soaps and the use of intimate sprays destroy the protective coat of the skin and irritate the mucous membranes in the genital and anal area. Bacteria are so easy to play with and cause, for example, urinary tract infections, "says PD Dr. med. med. Frank Oberpenning, Chief Physician of the Department of Urology and Pediatric Urology at St. Agnes Hospital Bocholt.
Even before the so-called bubble bath cystitis ̶ cystitis as a result of extended spa baths in women ̶ warns the urologist.
Quite similar is the intimate shaving. It looks visually much more hygienic in the genital area, but the shave leads to the smallest injuries of the skin. Such micro-lesions serve many viruses and bacteria as entry ports into the body. As a result, it comes z. B. much easier to infections with herpes viruses or human papillomavirus (HPV), of which the latter may cause, among other things, the unpleasant genital warts or even cancer.

Similarly, Intimpiercings involve some risk of injury to men and women. Bleeding may occur, increasing the risk of infection. Nerves and erectile tissue of the penis can be damaged, condoms tear. From a urological point of view, piercing is not recommended. However, if you do not want to do without it, you should be aware of the risks of injury to yourself and your partner.
Even without jewelry, it can lead to friction and irritation in the genital area in sports, as cases of so-called jogger phobia show. "She's a classic case of fake sportswear. Although the Joggerphimose appears only in isolated cases, then it is all the more painful ", knows. Oberpenning. "Nylon pants certainly look trendy, but the fabric on the skin leads to increased friction. The foreskin of the affected man can then inflame, swell and constrict the glans by scarring. "This disease can be avoided by using instead of nylon cotton clothing.
When cycling, most men have no relevant risk, says DGU President Prof. Dr. med. med. Kurt Miller. "However, if cycling puts pressure on the dam for a long time, it can affect the nerves that also feed the cavernous bodies." This could be a problem especially for men who cycle for more than three hours a week. If numbness occurs in the perineal area or radiates into the penis, you should definitely change something, advises Prof. Miller. Decisive are, for example, the saddle and the sitting position. "But if you do it right, cycling has a positive effect on potency, because it promotes blood circulation in the pelvic area."
It is important to consult a urologist for all changes in the male genital area. Not always such problems are painful, as in the case of a phimosis or a testicular bruise due to impact injuries in football or hockey. "The German Society for Urology advises against self-experiments with rechargeable batteries, because the penis and especially the testicles are very sensitive to temperatures, so even after a short time frostbite can threaten even with usual household ice batteries," concludes Prof. Wülfing and refers to the 68th DGU Annual Meeting, which took place from 28.09. until 01.10.2016 in Leipzig. Visitors to the public DGU Patient Forum can expect more information on urological diseases on 01.10.2016 between 10.30 and 12.30. DGU and congress president Prof. Miller cordially invites all interested parties to this event today in the Congress Center Leipzig. (Pm)
