Homeopathy as a supplement in intensive care
Homeopathy as a useful supplement in intensive care medicine.
(24.09.2010) Clashes between conventional physicians and homeopathic physicians often become a form of medial debate „religious war“ hyped. That in medical practice ideological trenches play a very subordinate role, shows the successful collaboration of conventional and homeopathic doctors, which is oriented solely to the well-being of the patient. Critics and proponents of the healing method should therefore be surprised that homeopathy can even have a place in state-of-the-art medical equipment in intensive care units. „In my opinion, intensive care offers the ideal combination of conventional medicine and homeopathy“, says Michael Frass in the autumn issue of the popular magazine Homeopathy of the German Central Association of Homeopathic Physicians (DZVhÄ). Frass is senior physician, university professor, intensive care physician and homeopath at the Department of Internal Medicine I at the Vienna AKH. Homeopathy is particularly successful as an additive measure in intensive care patients with severe sepsis. One study (double-blind, randomized and placebo-controlled) demonstrated the efficacy of the method (Frass et al., Homeopathy 2005; 94: 75-80). After 180 days of treatment, there was a significant benefit for the homeopathy group: it had a survival rate of 76 percent compared to 50 percent for the placebo group. A detailed interview with Michael Frass and a case report on the use of homeopathy in emergency medicine can be read in the current issue of the journal Homeopathy.
Other topics of the autumn edition include: Self-Treatment: Homeopathic Remedies for Premenstrual Syndrome / News: Political Voices for Discussion on a „Homeopathy ban“ / Rubrik Wissen: What is meant in homeopathy under the similiar rain and proven indications? / Animal Homeopathy: Ear infections in dogs
