Today is the World Osteoporosis Day
World Osteoporosis Day: valuable information for the prevention of bone loss.
On the World Osteoporosis Day, experts will provide information on how to prevent the onset of the disease in advance. According to estimates, about 25 percent of people in Germany suffer from osteoporosis. To prevent osteoporosis, the umbrella organization Osteoporosis (DOP) advises on the occasion of the World Osteoporosis Day to actively move, to eat healthy and to maintain a healthy lifestyle. These three factors are the most important ones to prevent chronic bone loss.
Diet, exercise and lifestyle are the three most important factors for preventing osteoprosis
On the occasion of the Osteoporosis Action Day, experts, physicians and celebrities such as Senta Berger provided valuable information on osteoporosis prevention. "Protecting yourself against osteoporosis and doing your bones well is easier than many people think“, says the actress Senta Berger. To keep her bones healthy and stable for a long time, the actress holds regular fitness exercises. As a second factor, nutrition plays a prominent role. Only if the bones are supplied with sufficient minerals, vitamins and nutrients, they remain healthy and are less susceptible to osteoporosis. „Everyone, young or old, should pay attention to a calcium-rich diet“, advised Dr. med. Jutta Semler, Chair of the Board of Trustees Bone Health in Sinsheim. However, it is important to absorb calcium in its natural form. Just two glasses of milk and two slices of cheese are enough to provide the body with enough calcium. At least 1,000 to 1,500 mg of calcium should be consumed by one adult per day. An adequate supply of the important vitamin D should also be guaranteed. "Because only vitamin D ensures that sufficient calcium is absorbed and stored in the bones," added the specialist.
What is osteoporosis??
It is a condition that results in bone loss and loss of stability of the skeleton. Physicians refer to a bone metabolism disorder that is characterized by the loss of bone mass, bone structure and bone function and associated with bone fractures, especially vertebral fractures and femoral neck fractures. Osteoporosis affects women after menopause. About 70 percent of the patients are women. In men, the disease often occurs after the age of 60 years.
Joie de vivre is important for osteoporosis treatment
It is also important to properly treat the consequences of osteoporosis. It's not just about preventing fractures, but encouraging patients. Doctors should not only explain to those affected what they are not allowed to do in the future, but they should also give an understanding of what is important for recovery. In the Hautblickfeld should be above all the joy of life. It is important to explain what you can do even though you have osteoporosis. (sb, 20.10.2010)
