Hay Fever 2010: Late and fierce: Due to the long-lasting cold this year, the pollen will start a little later, but then with intense intensity.
Late and violent: Due to the long-lasting cold this year, the pollen count will begin a little later, but then with intense intensity. Normally the pollen flight starts in mid-January. During this time the alder and the hazel begin to bloom. In addition to the late flowering of birch and alder, birch pollen will be added in 2010. Because in a two-year turn the birch flight is a bit stronger. The birch trees usually bloom in mid-March and have the highest activity in April. Allergy sufferers can be happy when rainfall and damp weather curb pollen.
For this reason, allergists suspect a pronounced pollen count in the spring of 2010, which could lead to severe symptoms in people with hay fever and allergic asthma. Since the shortness of breath can be life-threatening, sufferers and physicians should keep a close eye on the symptoms this year. Because according to the president of the Association of German Allergists (Äda) Hans Merk, even people who were previously symptom-free, this year for the first time could show an allergy. The Äda estimates that in Germany about 20 million people, equivalent to almost a quarter of the population, suffer from hay fever.
