While other statutory health insurance companies have to levy additional contributions from their insured persons, the Handelskrankenkasse Bremen (HKK) announces that it will again be paying a premium of 60 euros to its contributors in 2012. The Board of Directors has unanimously decided on the premium for the insured persons. This means that the health insurance company pays rewards to its customers for the third year in a row.

Already in the spring of 2010, the HKK insured could enjoy a bonus. The fund had sent 220.00 checks with the contribution repayment for 2009 to its members. The next payment of a premium will take place in the coming spring of 2011. And also on the following year, the health insurance fund members can look forward to a premium and have to fear like other health insurance against additional contributions. According to the HKK, this is possible because the health insurance has managed well and „traditionally“ can look back on debt relief and low administrative costs. As the HKK CEO Michael Lempe emphasized, the distribution of the premium compensates the Federal Government's increase in cash contributions as of January 1, 2011 from 14.9 to 15.5 percent. With the contribution repayments of hkk now planned totaling 14 million euros, they can fully or at least partially offset the additional burden. Of the 14 million. € 11.9 million will be distributed to hkk customers in Bremen and north-western Lower Saxony alone.

The repayment of the premium applies to all contributors of the health insurance. For insured persons who are, for example, covered by a family insurance policy, this regulation does not apply. The premium will be sent automatically, a separate application is therefore not necessary.

The Handelskrankenkasse Bremen as a relatively small and regionally anchored health insurance makes it before the large GK insurances. Through good health services and premium payments, a membership increase was achieved. The number of insured persons increased in 2010 by 24,000 new members. This means that around 335,000 people are insured in the HKK. „In 2010, we recorded membership growth of over 9 percent, a record for the HKK“, reported Lempe on Monday in Bremen. In addition to the premium, the Executive Board assures that, in contrast to other health insurance funds, it does not intend to make any additional contributions in 2011. Accordingly, it can be assumed that even more citizens will change to the HKK Bremen. (Sb)
