Be prepared for the flu epidemic and start vaccinations?

09/28/2014

The next flu epidemic can come, in most of the states one is prepared. So also in Thuringia. There is now the flu protection vaccine available for medical practices. People from risk groups will get vaccinated.

Similar demand expected in the previous year
In Thuringia you are prepared for the next flu epidemic. As a spokeswoman for the health insurance AOK Plus said, the vaccine is already delivered and is available for medical practices. The statutory health insurance companies have signed vaccine supply contracts with three pharmaceutical companies this season. It was reported that the pharmacies in the Free State expect a similar demand, as in the previous year. „For the first time in three years, the vaccination season starts without problems“, said the Chairman of the Thuringian Pharmacists Association, Stefan Fink, to MDR Thuringia.

Every year around 500,000 people in Thuringia are vaccinated against influenza (influenza). According to the Ministry of Social Affairs, 243 influenza diseases were registered in the state last season. Nationwide, the flu season last winter was unusually weak. However, the development is unpredictable every year. Normally, the flu epidemic starts after the turn of the year, but individual cases usually occur before. The Standing Vaccination Commission (STIKO) advises above all people from risk groups to protect themselves. The best time for vaccination is in the months of October to November.

Vaccination for people from risk groups
People who will be vaccinated include those over the age of 60, pregnant women, those with chronic conditions, such as diabetes, asthma or cardiovascular disease, and medical personnel. In these groups, the vaccination rate is too low and there is a greater risk that an infection will take a more severe course. Critics of influenza vaccination repeatedly point out the potential side effects that this can bring. For example, redness and swelling of the injection site, fatigue, muscle and limb pain, nausea, shivering, headache, fever or loss of appetite may occur. However, such vaccination reactions usually resolve after one to three days.

Prevention is safer
A vaccine does not provide 100% protection against the flu. Not only because of this is regularly pointed out by experts that you can keep fit through a healthy lifestyle, such as sports and balanced nutrition, and with natural remedies can strengthen the immune system and thus is better prepared for a variety of infections. It is also advisable to follow certain hygiene rules. Among other things, the risk of infection can be reduced by avoiding the coughing or annoying of people as possible, paper instead of handkerchiefs be used and is often ventilated. It is also important to wash your hands thoroughly over and over again. (Ad)
