It is best to keep the health pot of matcha tea in the fridge
Various exotic "superfoods" have found many new fans in Germany in recent years. Even matcha tea is no longer found only in specialty stores. The drink made of special green tea varieties should be prepared properly and stored cool.
Large amount of antioxidants, vitamins and minerals
Matcha tea has developed in recent years into a new trend drink in Germany. In the past, green tea powder was almost only available from special online providers; meanwhile, it can also be found in conventional retailing. It is known for its great amount of antioxidants, important vitamins and minerals. Among other things, Matcha tea is supposed to prevent cardiovascular diseases. In order for the aroma of the drink to develop optimally, it should be prepared properly and kept cool.
Green powder of ground tea
The term matcha comes from the Japanese and means as much as ground tea, explains the consumer center Bavaria in a statement. The fine, green powder is whipped with hot water and a bamboo whisk.
For the powder certain types of green tea are ground, and according to the consumer advocates, only the most delicate pieces of leaves are used.
"For Matcha of the highest quality, the tea farmers even remove the leaf veins by hand," explains Heidrun Schubert from the Bavarian Consumer Center. This explains the high price: 30 grams of tea can cost up to 50 euros.
Keep airtight in the refrigerator
Cultivation also plays a role in the strong aroma of Matcha tea. If the plants grow in the shade before harvesting, they produce more aromatic substances and the plant pigment chlorophyll in their leaves.
This ensures the bright green color of the tea powder. "In order to preserve the aroma, Matcha should be stored in airtight packaging in the refrigerator," advises nutrition expert Schubert.
Matcha tea performs well in the test
Although tests have shown in the past that green tea is often highly contaminated, among the products that performed well last year in a survey by Stiftung Warentest was also a matcha tea. (Ad)
