Swiss cheese contaminated with bacteria

The consumer protection portal of the Federal Office for Consumer Protection and Food Safety "lebensmittelwarnung.de" warns against the consumption of the Swiss cheese "Reblochon de Savoie au lait cru" in the 450 gram pack. The manufacturer "Fromagerie Chabert" recalls the cheese due to suspected Escherichia coli 026. These bacteria can cause gastrointestinal inflammation, which can be accompanied by bloody diarrhea and fever. Especially for infants, there is the additional risk of kidney complications.

According to the manufacturer, "Reblochon de Savoie au lait cru 450 grams" products bearing the identification number FR 74-096-050 CE and the best before date 02 April 2018 to 24 July 2018 are affected. About coli bacteria

Colloquially, the intestinal bacteria of the genus Escherichia coli are referred to as Kolibakterien. These belong to the normal intestinal flora and take over important functions there. However, there are also pathogenic strains. Among these pathogenic strains is the Escheria Coli 026 bacterium, which can cause severe gastrointestinal disease.

What symptoms may appear after consumption?

Symptoms of Escherichia coli infection can occur within one week of consumption of contaminated products. This can lead to gastrointestinal disturbances with watery or bloody diarrhea, which can be accompanied by abdominal pain, fever, nausea and vomiting. Especially in infants, pregnant women, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems can lead to severe disease or complications.

Should a doctor be consulted?

Consumers who have consumed the above-mentioned product and who suffer from the symptoms described should immediately consult their physician and point out the consumption of the product or a possible Escherichia coli infection. A precautionary doctor's visit without symptoms is not necessary. (Vb)
