Health In case of strong heat, avoid these foods
In the current midsummer temperatures, lovers of Mett, mayonnaise or tiramisu must be extra careful. Foods that contain raw meat or eggs contain health risks. In heat, bacteria such as salmonella multiply very well. In the summer, care should therefore be taken to ensure proper storage and preparation.
In heat, bacteria multiply very well
Kitchen hygiene in summer is of particular importance. In heat, bacteria such as salmonella multiply very well. Consuming contaminated food poses serious health risks. Among other things, it often causes symptoms such as diarrhea, fever, stomach pain, nausea and vomiting. On hot days, consumers should therefore pay particular attention to the preparation and consumption of certain foods. This was pointed out by the German Nutrition Society (DGE) in a press release dpa news agency.
Pregnant women, children and the weakened should do better
In particular, dishes with raw meat such as mett or carpaccio and raw egg like tiramisu are risky. While extreme caution is warranted with appropriate foods for all people, especially children, people with weakened immune systems and expecting mothers should refrain from doing so. In any case, special rules apply to what is allowed on the menu during pregnancy so as not to harm the baby. The consumption of food contaminated with dangerous germs can also lead to miscarriages.
Ensure adequate cooling
If foods such as raw eggs or meat are not cooled sufficiently, there is an increased risk of Salmonella at temperatures between 20 and 40 degrees Celsius. Both dealers and consumers should therefore pay attention to a continuous cooling of the products. As stated in the dpa report, eggs can minimize the risk of infection if the food is consistently cooled at a maximum of six degrees Celsius and then eaten quickly. It is recommended by the experts of the DGE, especially in the summer of all fresh food to buy only small quantities and eat them very soon thereafter. (Ad)
