According to a study by the University of Witten-Herdecke, regular intake of fruit and vegetable concentrates can improve the health of the skin. After twelve weeks of regular use of the dietary supplements, an improvement of the microcirculation of the skin by 39 percent could be achieved.
Improved microcirculation of the skin through dietary supplements
In the study, 52 women were followed for 12 weeks. The women were given either capsules containing the fruit and vegetable concentrates or placebos twice a day. After the study period, microcirculation of the skin was measured by various factors. It turned out that the women who had taken the dietary supplement, had a 39 percent improved microcirculation of their skin. In addition, the hydration of the skin increased by an average of nine percent, the thickness by about six percent and the density by 16 percent. In the group of women who took placebos, no improvement in the microcirculation of the skin, but even a decline was noted. Only the skin density increased slightly.
Microcirculation is an important indicator of skin health. It is responsible for the distribution of oxygen and nutrients. The study has shown that optimal distribution of oxygen and nutrients has a beneficial effect on the skin. It supports the metabolism of skin cells and can lead to skin improvement.
The skin is the largest human organ
The skin is the largest human organ with 1.7 square meters, a thickness of 1.5 to 4 millimeters and a weight of 3.5 to 10 kilograms. It offers the body protection from influences such as heat, cold, pathogens and various environmental influences and separates the interior from the outside. As a sensory organ it has sensory cells and tactile corpuscles and can thus perceive pain and temperature. It secretes fluid through its sweat glands and participates in the regulation of body temperature by dilating or narrowing the skin vessels. Other functions of the skin are respiration, the release of waste products with sweat and the storage of the precursor of vitamin D3.
The skin is also called „mirror of the soul“ considered, because often sensations, mental stress and problems can be read from it. It reflects both organic and mental sensitivities. So many people with blushing react to feelings like shame. On the other hand, it is also possible to read organic problems on the skin. When it comes to liver disease, the skin itches, it turns yellow in a bile, and it turns pale gray in massive kidney disease. With its numerous functions and tasks, the skin represents an equally vital organ, such as the heart. (Ag)
