Healthy diet What are the differences between clementines and tangerines?
To get through the winter as cold as possible, you should strengthen your immune system. Ideal for this are delicious citrus fruits such as clementines or tangerines. What is the difference between the small, round and orange fruits??
Citrus fruits in winter
Especially in the winter months, when vitamin C intake is particularly important, mandarins and clementines are popular citrus fruits. Externally, both can hardly be distinguished. The differences are mainly in the taste. "Mandarins have a juicy, aromatic flesh" and are sometimes a bit sour, explains Sabine Hülsmann from the Bavarian Consumer Center in a recent release.
Clementines are mostly coreless
For children who like to react on fruit with phrases like "seeds I do not like," Clementines are the better choice. Because they are, unlike tangerines, usually coreless.
The small, orange fruits are extremely healthy. They promote blood clotting and stimulate the metabolism. And they are a valuable source of energy. According to the consumer information service aid, the vitamin C content of a mandarin covers "43 percent of an adult's daily requirement".
Wash hands after peeling
As the consumer center Bavaria explains, the clementine is a cross between tangerine and bitter orange. Their shell is slightly thinner, the sweet pulp is less aromatic, but mostly seedless.
"If tangerines cross-pollinate during flowering, clementines can also contain nuclei," says Sabine Hülsmann.
As with all citrus fruits, tangerines and clementines are also recommended for washing hands immediately after peeling. "That removes adherent residues of peel treatment products," explains the nutrition expert. Organic fruits can do without these aids. (Ad)
