Genetically modified soy found in chicken nuggets

Genetically modified soy found in chicken nuggets / Health News

Eco-test: Genetically modified soy found in chicken nuggets. The chicken nuggets are also not suitable for a calorie-conscious diet. Chicken nuggets contain a lot of fat due to the breading.

(28.06.2010) The consumer magazine "Ökotest" has tested chicken nuggets finished products. The result: The fat content of nuggets is very high, the products are not suitable for a healthy or calorie-conscious diet. In addition, at least one product found traces of genetically modified soya and flavor enhancers. Ökotest has made twelve finished products in the test series.

High fat chicken nuggets.
Chicken is actually low in fat and healthy. However, the chicken nuggets, which are especially popular with children, are something special. Some of the products contained up to 43 percent breadcrumbs. The breading is responsible for ensuring that the chicken pieces are by no means calorie-reduced. The Nuggets breading often contains a lot of spices, salt, flavor enhancers and fats. Consumers should not indulge in the assumption that nuggets are low in calories because they are made from chicken.

Products containing more than 30 percent breadcrumbs were devalued by the "Ökotester". For one product, the proportion was even up to 43 percent. This increases the fat content in the air. The best result was attributable to an organic product. However, the product of "Salomon Bio Chik'n Nuggets" contained 14.4 grams of fat per 100 grams. The products Bofrost Chicken Chips placed behind showed 9.8 grams of fat per 100 grams. It should be noted that the fat content again increases significantly when the nuggets are baked in the pan or even in the deep fryer. Consumers should therefore at least give the chicken nuggets in the oven.

Too much salt and flavor enhancers.
Not only the high fat content of the products was negative for the testers. Most of the products contained many unnecessary additives that could endanger human health. Many products, with the exception of organic nuggets, contained too much salt and flavors that make the chicken products flavorful “upgraded” were. For example, the "Good & Cheap" nuggets contained 1.9 grams of salt per 100 grams of chicken. That is twice as much as suggested, according to the nutritional declaration of the salt content. Too much salt permanently causes high blood pressure. Hypertension can again cause coronary heart disease.

Genetically modified soy found in nuggets.
A product was particularly negative. Here the testers of Ökotest found traces of genetically modified soy. On the packaging of the product, this fact was not recorded. The manufacturer pointed out that this could only have happened through contamination during harvest, transport or storage in North and South America. For the eco-testers, this is proof that normal and GM agriculture can not be separated from each other. (Sb)
