Dangerous pathogen Recall action of contaminated ham at Aldi
The meat product factory Schwarz Cranz from Neu Wulmstorf (Lower Saxony) has started a recall for low-fat gourmet raw ham. Staphylococci had been detected in one sample. These bacteria can lead to health problems. The product concerned was sold exclusively in branches of Aldi Süd.
Microbiological contamination detected
The meat product factory Schwarz Cranz GmbH & Co. KG from Neu Wulmstorf in Lower Saxony calls back the product "Feta-reduced gourmet raw ham in slices 175g". "In a single sample of the product with the best before date (MHD) 16.10.2017 and the lot number L3194057613 a microbiological contamination (staphylococci) was detected," the company writes in a press release.
Health impairments
According to the Federal Institute for Risk Assessment (BfR), staphylococci are the cause of many infectious diseases in humans and animals. They can cause foodborne intoxications as well as infectious diseases, "say the experts.
The Lower Saxony State Office for Consumer Protection and Food Safety (LAVES) explains the symptoms that can occur when the bacteria are infected:
"Dominant symptoms of staphylococcal intoxication include vomiting, nausea, diarrhea and circulatory symptoms. Already extremely small amounts of toxin may suffice. "
Affected goods sold exclusively through Aldi South
According to Schwarz Cranz GmbH & Co. KG, the article affected by the recall was sold exclusively via Aldi Süd in the districts of Rheinhessen-Pfalz and Darmstadt.
Other best before dates / lot numbers of this article or other products distributed by Schwarz Cranz are not affected according to the company.
Packs with the appropriate MHD and batch number can be returned for a refund of the purchase price at the place of purchase. (Ad)
