Energy drinks with lots of caffeine have an effect on the contraction of the heart

Energy drinks with lots of caffeine have an effect on the contraction of the heart. According to a recent study by the University of Bonn, which examined the heart of 17 study participants one hour after enjoying an energy drink with imaging techniques, it became clear that the contractions of the heart muscle became stronger.
It has not yet been established which mechanisms lead to this phenomenon and what consequences this has for cardiac function. However, the caffeine content of these drinks is up to 3 times higher than in e.g. in coffee or cola drinks, which can lead to significant "side effects". Not only is an increased heart rate possible, heart palpitations, increased blood pressure, convulsions and sudden cardiac death can occur. Especially children and people with irregular heartbeats should avoid these drinks. (Pm)
