Women complain more about self-doubt than men and are, according to expressed criticism significantly depressed

Women are more affected by so-called self-doubt than men. This resulted in a representative survey. Every third woman feels like a critic „downcast“. One in five women said they had self-doubt in any area. For men, only one in seven said they had doubts.

Are the old role stereotypes correct? Are men actually „self-conscious“ as women? Women are still plagued by self-doubt and pondering what others think about them. Men say straight ahead what they think. For the most part, men do not care what others say or think about them. In short, these are the results of a survey conducted by the Gesellschaft für Konsumforschung (GfK), which was commissioned by the "Apotheken Umschau".

In the study, a total of 1931 people over the age of 14 were interviewed, and the proportion of men (937) and women (994) was about the same. As a result, women clearly cut across self-confidence and self-interest issues „worse“ off, as the men interviewed. For example, 20.1 percent of women said they were afraid to fail (men 14.4 percent). 27.1 percent of women also stated that they were thinking about what others say about you. For men, the average was 22.8 percent. One in three women (33.1 percent) feels clearly depressed after a criticism (men: 23.7). Even in the expression of wishes, women are much more restrained. Women prefer not to express their needs for fear of rejection (women: 32.1 / men: 26.8 percent).

But what do these numbers really mean? While men hardly worry about their fellow men, women have for it „finer antennas“. They are less reckless and reflect their own behaviors. The reasons should continue to lie in education. While girls are more likely to be taught restraint, boys can often develop more freely. (sb, 18.09.2010)
