Women often resort to herbal remedies of natural medicine

10.01.2011

According to a survey, women often use natural herbal medicines. More than half of women use natural remedies to relieve symptoms and discomfort. This was the result of a representative survey conducted by GfK Marktforschung in Nuremberg.

During the survey, a total of 1994 men and women aged 14 and over were interviewed. A total of 53 percent of women reported to use herbal ingredients. Men were a little more reserved about the question. Here, nearly 30 percent (29.9 percent) of the men reported occasionally taking herbal medicines.

Especially older women are more likely to take remedies for natural medicine. Accordingly, women over the age of 60 often use tinctures, capsules and ointments derived from natural and herbal ingredients. The proportion of women over the age of 60 was 62.8 percent, which is almost two-thirds of the older respondents. 70 percent of the participants assume that herbal preparations have little side effects or are far more compatible than active ingredients of the pharmaceutical industry. However, one in five respondents did not know whether the remedy was taken, in fact based on herbal active ingredients. The survey was commissioned by the magazine „pharmacy magazine“ carried out.
