Women are afraid of urologists
Fear of urologist unfounded

Many say that urologists are the "gynecologists" of men. But this is a cliché: Although the urologists are in fact also experts in male genital organs, they equally treat defects in the urinary and urinary organs. In case of urethral, bladder or kidney problems - which are known to affect many women - women should consult a urologist. Nevertheless, many women react anxiously after a referral. The walk to the urologist is actually a normal doctor's visit, as the doctors network Uro-GmbH Nordrhein knows.
Especially women get sick due to the anatomical conditions often bladder or urinary tract infections. „As with a gynecologist, a conversation and accurate urine examinations come first“, explains Dr. Michael Stephan-Odenthal, urologist and medical director of the medical network Uro-GmbH North Rhine. „Harmless abdominal ultrasound examinations and laboratory measurements are used to identify the type of bacteria and their behavior.“ Sometimes, bladder reflexes or X-ray examinations are necessary. „Much has been done on the bladder reflexes in recent years. Through advanced and flexible devices, this examination is virtually painless for both men and women.“
Also, urinary incontinence or bladder emptying disorders are often affected by women. Here, in addition to a so-called micturition protocol, a urodynamic examination and a stomach ultrasound to assess the function of the bladder and urethra are at the center of diagnostic procedures. To assess what type of incontinence is present, urologists first measure urinary bladder pressure. To do this, they fill the bladder with a liquid and measure the capacity and pressure in the urinary bladder under various stress situations. At the same time, the occlusion pressure of the urethral sphincter muscle is recorded. Both examinations are painless and provide reliable information about the type and success of incontinence therapy. (Pm)
