Beetroot regenerates muscles faster
Many people take so-called energy drinks and protein bars after an intensive sports training. Researchers have now discovered a new kind of superfood that seems to be a more effective after-work snack. Beetroot not only has many health benefits for the body and brain, the root vegetables also help the muscles to recover after an intense workout.

Researchers at the University of North Umbria found that beetroot appears to be an excellent snack after a physically demanding workout that helps muscles recover quickly and effectively.

Beetroot is not only good for the body and mind, it also improves muscle recovery
If you exercise frequently, you will probably be eating protein bars or protein drinks to accelerate muscle recovery. Perhaps in the future you could do without such remedies and replace them with red beet. Beetroot is therefore not only good for the body and the brain, but also for muscle regeneration.

Subjects were given beetroot juice or placebo
The scientists studied about 30 physically active men between the ages of 18 and 28, who did physical training at least twice a week. The participants had to perform 100 intensive jumping exercises during the study. The exercises were so intense that they caused muscle damage in the subjects' legs. Over the next three days, the men either took 250 milliliters of beetroot juice or were given placebo. The placebo had the same amount of calories and the same carbohydrate content as the beetroot juice, explain the physicians.

Beetroot can even improve the performance of the sport
The intake of beetroot improved the performance of the participants after three days. The people in the red beet group jumped on average 18 percent higher than the participants from the placebo group. Taking red beet juice also reduced the pain and consumption could result in a shorter recovery time between the exercises performed, reports NDTV.

Beetroot detoxifies the body
It is well known that beetroot can help with detoxification. The root vegetable detoxifies the body by transporting the toxins into the colon. There, the toxins are eliminated by the colon.

Beetroot is rich in antioxidants
Beetroot got its name from its eye-catching color. Betanin is the responsible pigment. But it is not only involved in the coloring, but this pigment is also a strong antioxidant. Antioxidants, for example, reduce the oxidation of bad cholesterol, protect the walls of the arteries, and reduce the likelihood of suffering various heart disease or strokes, the researchers explain.

Beetroot is low in calories and almost fat free
Although beetroot contains a high sugar content, the root vegetable is very low in calories and almost fat free. Beetroot is also a vegetable that is rich in fibers. For this reason, beetroot saturates for a long period of time. (As)
