Drugstore chain Rossmann starts recall for baby milk food from Lactalis

The French dairy group Lactalis launched a worldwide recall campaign for baby milk products a few weeks ago. The product concerned could be contaminated with Salmonella. Now, the German drugstore chain Rossmann calls back certain batches of baby milk formula of the French company.

Worldwide recall for Lactalis baby milk products

The French dairy group Lactalis started a worldwide recall for baby milk products in early December because of a potential salmonella threat. These bacteria can cause diarrhea and other medical conditions. Meanwhile, 83 countries are already affected by the scandal. In Germany, the group mainly sells Président, Galbani or Salakis cheeses in supermarkets. Baby milk sells the company according to own data in this country but not. However, Rossmann had sold Lactalis baby formula in the past. The German drugstore chain calls these products back now.

French company produced for Rossmann

According to a statement by Rossmann, there is no longer a supplier relationship between the drugstore chain and Lactalis for the affected products since November 2016.

"Previously, the French company produced milk products for the ROSSMANN brand Babydream," the company writes.

Lactalis has confirmed in the recall that all milk products ever made for Rossmann were always flawless and there was no suspicion of contamination.

Milk food in Germany is subject to strict legal criteria. The drugstore chain works according to its own data with independent laboratories, which carry out quality control of the baby milk stream.

"The baby milk milk products tested by ROSSMANN met all health requirements," states the statement.

Affected goods were last produced in 2016

All baby milk milk products produced and affected by Lactalis were reported to have been manufactured in mid-2016. The last sale of a Babydream product of this production took place in the middle of 2017.

Therefore, none of these dairy food products are now in the Rossmann stores or warehouses.

Since the end of 2016, babydream milk products in Germany are produced by another brand manufacturer.

The products differ in terms of their imprint "Made in Germany" and "Made in the EU" - they recognize the new products by the imprint "Made in Germany".

Goods marked "Made in the EU"

Lactalis, in coordination with the French authorities, has decided to take precautionary action to recall all milk products produced at the Craon plant concerned.

Rossmann joins this approach. The drugstore chain asks their customers to discontinue use of all babydream dairy products labeled "Made in the EU" and return them to the nearest Rossmann store.

The purchase price will be refunded without presentation of the receipt.
