(22.04.2010) The fitness industry is still booming in Germany. But fitness is a good substitute for the lack of movement of many people in their workplaces. The sports scientist Theodor Stemper once again emphasized the economic benefits of fitness training and activity at the fitness trade fair Fibo. According to him, this could save the health insurance companies up to 16 billion euros annually.

Due to the many jobs with seated character and lack of movement, people have to compensate for this in the remaining time. That's why evil tongues call gyms "work simulation sites" because they just copy what we've done for centuries: move us around at work. As people in our society are getting older and older, Stemper points to the character of exercise and fitness activities that prevent symptoms. About one third of older people have estimated sarcopenia - this is an already no longer normal lack of muscle mass. Also, therapists in manual treatment such as osteopathy have been pointing out the effects of lack of exercise for some time.

Thorsten Fischer, alternative practitioner and specialist for osteopathy from Hanover: "Our organism heals better and faster through exercise The lack of many people especially in the western industrialized countries is certainly one of the reasons for many treatment-resistant symptoms and the rise of certain diseases such as osteoporosis and diabetes. "

With about seven million people, the fitness sector has skyrocketed in recent years and has even surpassed our traditional club structure in terms of membership. With around two billion euros in sales per year, this has become a weighty industry. The Fibo fitness trade fair in Essen is taking place for the 25th time and, with around 560 exhibitors from 35 countries and expected 50,000 visitors, has meanwhile reached a considerable size. New fitness methods and equipment are presented here and the wellness industry is also represented. It is to be expected that trends will be presented here for the near future and implemented later. The trend of pure bobybuilding in gyms is now passé. Only about 10,000 bodybuilders are said to exist in Germany. The trend is more towards three-dimensional body strengthening. In the fitness industry, more and more the fascia, the connective connective tissue fibers, are the focus of the training. (Sb)
