TV triggers Schmorbrand in the hospital
TV triggers fire in Bad Dürkheim hospital
An imploding TV triggered a burnout in the hospital Bad Dürkheimer (Rhineland-Palatinate), as a result of which several patients had to be relocated as a precaution to other hospitals. Luckily nobody was injured.
After the TV imploded in one of the patient rooms and caused a Schmorbrand with considerable smoke development, the station nurse responded immediately, brought the patients from the room and alerted the fire-brigade. Although this was able to extinguish the Schmorbrand quickly, but the smoke was so strong that the smoke spread through the ventilation system into the intensive care unit. Therefore, 22 patients of the Protestant hospital were taken to safety as a precaution on Saturday evening, whereby also five intensive care unit patients were affected.
The patients could initially be accommodated in other hospitals and provided medical care. Schmorbrände are particularly threatening for the residents in hospitals and nursing homes, where many people are bedridden or severely restricted in their ability to move. Because they can not evade the strong smoke from their own strength or leave the building, so that the risk of smoke poisoning with corresponding fatal health consequences is significantly increased here.
