No real after-work hours: Almost every second person checks service mails
According to a survey, almost every second employee in Germany checks his official e-mails after work. Around one in five is also called at least once a week after office hours. Health experts admonish: The separation of work and closing time is important.

Many employees are still called after work
Almost every second employee in Germany looks after work in his official e-mails. This is the result of a survey carried out on behalf of the news agency "dpa" by the opinion research institute "YouGov". According to this, 45 percent stated that they usually look into their business mailbox at least once or more after work. In addition, about 20 percent of respondents said they would normally be called at least once a week after hours. At 28 percent, this is less common than once a week, at 42 percent not at all. According to health experts, the lack of separation between work and free time prevents them from switching off and keeps the psychological pressure high after work. This results in an increased susceptibility to mental illness such as burnout or depression.

Disturbances "very stressful"
The many promised flexibility is therefore also a burden. It is known that people who are constantly available for work, do not recover properly. According to dpa, about every third person feels the constant accessibility meanwhile as "rather" or "very stressful". Also, one third of the workforce find the disturbances in the after-work hours "a bit onerous" and another one-third see it as no problem at all. The survey also showed that about one in three checked their e-mails at least once during their last vacation. On the other hand, it disturbs about 40 percent of all Germans, if their companion on vacation would read professional e-mails. (Ad)
