About ten months old baby weighs an incredible 28 pounds
Ten months old baby weighs 28 kilos - as much as a nine-year-old
A ten-month-old baby from Mexico already weighs in at 28 kilos. The boy weighs as much as normal for a nine-year-old. His mother initially thought that her son's extreme overweight had something to do with her "good mother's milk". Doctors warn that the little one's life is in danger.
More and more obese children
According to health experts, the number of obese children has increased dramatically. Severe obesity can cause a variety of diseases such as high blood pressure or diabetes. Obesity in childhood and adolescence should therefore under no circumstances be underestimated. At first, a mother from Mexico did not take her son's extreme weight gain too seriously, thinking she had something to do with her "good breastmilk".

The ten-month-old Luis Manuel Gonzales weighs as much as an average nine-year-old - 28 kilos brings the not even a year-old boy from Mexico on the scales. When he was born, he weighed just 3,600 grams, just like his older brother. But pretty soon it became clear that Luis was different. His parents and doctors can not explain his mysterious weight gain, reports the British newspaper "Daily Mail".
Normal weight at birth
At birth, the little one weighed three and a half kilos. At the age of two months, Luis weighed in at ten kilos and in the next eight months added another 18 kilos.
When he was just over a month old, he had to wear clothes intended for two- or three-year-olds.
Luis tires quickly and can barely move. "He does not run and can not even crawl," said the boy's 24-year-old mother, Isabel Pantoja from Colima, Mexico.
She initially thought the enormous growth was due to the fact that she had "good breast milk".
But meanwhile she is very worried about her son. At the local hospital where she brought her boy again and again, however, the doctors found no explanation for obesity.
Maybe a genetic disorder is responsible for the overweight
One of the main hypotheses is that the boy may have a disease called Prader-Willi Syndrome (PWS), a genetic disorder in which children have an insatiable appetite.
According to the Prader-Willi Syndrome Association Germany e. V. People with PWS do not know what it means to be "fed up".
Affected therefore feel "no sense of satiety, so they can not regulate their eating behavior. This is how they develop an insatiable appetite ", write the experts on their website.
"Life-threatening obesity and corresponding secondary diseases, such as diabetes mellitus or cardiovascular diseases, are possible consequences of such an eating addiction," warns the Association.
"The PWS is not curable. But one can steer the disease into positive pathways by a variety of therapies and measures, e.g. through the early use of pedagogical-psychological support to promote psychosocial development, "the experts added.
Hormone and thyroid disorder
It is still unclear whether the boy actually suffers from PWS. He currently has to go to the hospital four times a week to do tests.
"It hurts to see the nurses looking for a vein under the fat on his arms," said Father Mario Gonzales, according to the Daily Mail..
But there is hope. Silvia Orozco, a nutrition specialist, contacted the family and examined the boy.
The physician explained to the AFP news agency that the kid's liver, lungs and heart are "greasy".
"His life is in danger, but we hope we can help him," said Orozco.
She still wants to wait for the results of tissue sample analyzes in the United States, but already suspects that Luis is not suffering from PWS, but possibly a hormone and thyroid disorder, which is due to a malnutrition during pregnancy. If so, the boy can be treated well. (Ad)
