First uniform concept for breastfeeding
Breastfeeding has many positive effects on the child's health and development, which is why the National Breastfeeding Committee and the Healthy Living Network recommend breastfeeding at least until the beginning of the 5th month of life. According to the consumer information service aid, "a nationwide uniform concept for basic training on the topic of breastfeeding and breastfeeding" was developed for the first time.
The Gesund ins Leben network, an IN FORM initiative of the German Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture, has worked with the relevant institutions for continuing education and nursing to develop the new concept, the aid reports. Many mothers only breastfeed for a few weeks
Continuing breastfeeding after birth is recommended, "because many mothers stop breast-feeding in the first six to eight weeks after birth or start feeding baby milk formula," according to aid. In supporting and accompanying mothers and their partners, multipliers such as doctors, midwives and medical assistants are particularly important, as they have regular contact with young families and enjoy great trust from them. The concept for basic training on the subject of breastfeeding and breastfeeding is therefore designed specifically for providers and speakers who train multipliers from the environment of young families on the subject of breastfeeding. For here, "uniform and scientifically sound basic knowledge for the counseling and support of pregnant women and mothers on breastfeeding should be taught," emphasizes the aid.
Important contribution to breastfeeding in Germany
According to the aid, the concept "Breastfeeding and Breastfeeding: Curriculum for Basic Training" will include detailed definitions of topics, contents and competencies - from the importance of breastfeeding and breastmilk nutrition to advice on nursing practices and the handling of special breastfeeding situations. In addition, organizational information and guidelines for quality assurance are listed. In addition, 45 ready-made slide proposals for use in basic training are included, which can also be downloaded for free on the network page in PDF format. The concept is differentiated in itself for the target groups "physicians, other occupational groups with nursing knowledge and professional groups without nursing knowledge", as there are often very different previous knowledge of breastfeeding in the various occupational groups. A focus of the training on the concept contribute to the fact that parents receive the same, everyday and well-founded information on breastfeeding.
