18/05/2011
The first judgments were announced in the disgusting scandal over rotten doner meat. Two of the three defendants each received a probationary sentence. However, the case against the main accused could not yet be brought to an end, as he suffered a mild heart attack at the weekend and therefore was not able to negotiate.
The verdicts in the disgusting scandal were relatively mild for the two co-defendants. Thus, the 54-year-old accused received a suspended sentence of two years on suspicion of aiding and abetting professional fraud and the 70-year-old accomplice was convicted of aiding and abetting a one-year and three-month probation. They are said to have helped the main culprit to repackage and sell non-consumable meat.
Complainants in the disgust scandal receive suspended sentences
The defendants had to answer before the Augsburg district court because of the fraud with the disgusting Doner meat. The not suitable for consumption meat was sold after relabelling especially to Berlin kebab makers, all in all, 150 tons so the charge of the prosecutor. The two co-defendants business partners of the chiefly accused meat manufacturer from Swabian Wertingen filed confessions at the beginning of the trial when the presiding judge promised them probation sentences. They have now received this and they are relatively mild with two years, one year and three months probation. The main culprit in the disgusting scandal is now being prosecuted as part of a segregated procedure, but his sentence is likely to be significantly harsher than that of the accomplices. When the meat manufacturer from the Swabian Wertingen after his heart attack will be able to negotiate again at the weekend, but so far is not known. (Fp)
