Burned out? This is how they detect signs of burnout
Those who are constantly struggling with exhaustion and fatigue should remember that it may well be a burnout. But even physical illnesses can be the cause of the stress symptoms. A visit to a doctor can provide information about the cause of the symptoms.

Constant stress and long hours
For a large proportion of Germans, the workload in the job has increased significantly. The permanent stress and long working hours are often an enormous burden. Many feel burned out. Excessive stress and stress often lead to a fatigue syndrome, the so-called burn-out. But what can affected people do themselves? And how can you recognize a burnout syndrome?

First signs of a burn-out
Long-term ailments such as sleep problems, fatigue and tension can be the first signs of a burn-out. This is especially true when the stress symptoms do not subside even after recovery periods such as a weekend. Christa Roth-Sackenheim from the Professional Association of German Psychiatrists (BVDP) in a statement on the website "www.psychiater-im-netz.org".

When recovery periods are no longer sufficient
Although there is no urgent need for a temporary feeling of work overload. In such situations, however, you should always pay attention to sufficient recovery periods. "As long as vegetative stress symptoms such as tension, reduced sleep quality and a sense of exhaustion occur for a limited time and regress in short recovery periods such as a weekend, it's not more likely to be a burnout syndrome," Dr. Roth-Sackville. However, if such phases do not result in fatigue recovery and an increasing distancing from work, a cynical nature towards work, and a performance decline, this indicates a burnout syndrome. Patients should seek the advice of a doctor.

Symptoms may also indicate other illnesses
Burn-out can have serious consequences, such as depression, addiction, or thrombosis. "Also, physical illnesses such as high blood pressure, tinnitus, a chronic pain syndrome or chronic infectious diseases can develop in the event of a long-term stress burden on the body," warned the expert. However, going to the doctor is also important because the typical burnout symptoms can sometimes also indicate quite different health problems, such as a thyroid disorder.

Possibilities of prevention
In the early detection of burn-out, the social environment can be helpful because sufferers are often no longer able to reflect their situation seriously and with consequences. The German Association for Burnout Prevention and Prevention (DBVB) in Munich has in the past pointed to various possibilities of prevention. Among other things, the experts mentioned the identification and reduction of stress sources, targeted relaxation (for example through progressive muscle relaxation, autogenic training, yoga, tai chi, qigong), sufficient sleep, regular exercise, healthy nutrition and taking time off.
