Exhausted and tired - teens feel burned out
A recent study by the Schwenningen health insurance shows that more and more young people are burned out. The cause of the trend was a lack of exercise and an unhealthy diet. More than two thirds of respondents between the ages of 14 and 34 often felt tired and limp during the day.
According to the Schwenninger health insurance, 70 percent of 14- to 34-year-olds were often tired and limp during the day. Girls and women are affected more often than average. "We see a very clear trend in our annual study: the young Germans increasingly complain about health restrictions as well as a lack of physical and mental fitness," emphasizes Thorsten Bröske from the board of the Schwenninger health insurance. The development is worrying. In 2013, significantly fewer young adults would have complained about corresponding restrictions at 62 percent. Many young people feel burned out. Only four in ten young people feel completely healthy
As part of the representative study of the Schwenninger health insurance fund and the foundation "Die Gesundarbeiter", 1,000 adolescents and young adults in Germany between the ages of 14 and 34 were interviewed. It became clear that only four out of ten respondents feel completely healthy overall. The unhealthy lifestyle with too little exercise and sports and an unhealthy diet probably formed the cause. "The young people self-critically admit that they could do a lot more for their health," says the Schwenninger health insurance. About 85 percent said they would like to do more sports and eat healthier food.
Fast countersteering required
Obviously, "health care is not yet on the agenda for the young generation, which will be forced to work longer and harder because of the demographic trend in working life," explains Bröske. This will avenge later. "For those who complain about fatigue and health restrictions as a young person, after 30 years of work will be completely burned out and sick," predicts the Schwenninger board. Here, quick countermeasures are required to stop the trend. For example, preventive measures could be introduced from early childhood. (Fp)
