In total, 162 schools participated in the competition, which is part of the initiative for healthy eating and more exercise in Germany. The ten winners will each receive a training kitchen. „If you leave school, you should know the basics of the diet, at least cook for yourself and have experienced tasty and balanced food at home and at school. Therefore, the nutrition education for us is also the sister of the school catering“, Schmidt in a press release.

A total of ten winners
Tim Mälzer, who participated in the award ceremony, said: „I notice again and again: The more the students know about food, the more fun they are cooking and the more aware they are of their diet.“ The competition had the motto: „With the kitchen around the world - International food“. The pupils of the elementary school „Fritz Reuter“ in Crivitz near Schwerin, which belongs to the ten winners, for example, with their film „Mutiny in cold store“, in which two milk cartons in a cold store make friends with fruit and vegetables from all over the world.

Half of young people do not care about healthy food
The importance of bringing healthy food to children and adolescents is demonstrated, among other things, by a survey conducted last year on behalf of Techniker Krankenkasse (TK). It showed that almost 50 percent of young people in Germany hardly value healthy and conscious food. Rather, speed in the preparation and implementation are important. Nutritionists repeatedly point out the health risks of unhealthy eating.

„Good food does not have to be expensive“
Therefore, it is very welcome when experts explain the consequences of healthy or unhealthy eating. So happened recently, as under the headline: „How unhealthy are salt, sugar, fat, alcohol?“ about the so-called „evil four“ was reported. The school competition is entering its fifth round this year and this time is under the motto: „Tasty and cheap - good food does not have to be expensive“. As the initiators announced, schools can submit their nutrition education contributions by June 28th. (Ad)
