Nutrition Extensive Breakfast yes or no?
For a long time it was said that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. But what about this statement? Is it really important to have an extensive breakfast and what are the effects on our health and weight? Researchers now found that it makes no real difference in weight, whether we have breakfast in the morning or not.
What effect does it have on our weight if we skip breakfast in the morning? Do we take off easier or do we even gain weight? Is breakfast really so important for a good start to the day? Researchers now attempted to find the answers to all these questions during an investigation. They found that it does not matter to our body weight whether we have had breakfast or not. The physicians published the results of their study in the journal "American Journal of Clinical Nutrition".

Some people abstain from breakfast in the morning to lose weight or maintain a healthy body weight, explain the doctors. By the 1960s, a long-term study had linked eating breakfast, together with restful sleep and regular exercise, to better overall health and increased life expectancy, the authors add. But in recent years, more and more doubts arose on this statement. Canadian researchers are now studying the data of about 12,000 adults for their study. They found that consuming a breakfast was not consistent with differences in body mass index (BMI). The physicians also noted that there is no prevalence of overweight. Breakfast eaters do not take off easier or worse than people who give up their breakfast completely.
Researchers find no particular benefits of breakfast
Eating habits have changed dramatically in recent years. A survey showed that one in five respondents did not eat breakfast or just had a coffee in the morning. A further 25 percent said they would not eat breakfast, but treat themselves to a yogurt or energy bar during the morning, the experts explain. It is striking that especially many younger people do without their breakfast. There was a significant difference in eating habits.
The younger people ate breakfast in the morning when they had time and desire. When researchers looked at the scientific evidence, they could not find any particular benefits of breakfast. Many people are not really hungry in the morning after getting up. Thus, it is quite sufficient if these people consume a yogurt at ten o'clock, say the doctors. For some people, skipping breakfast might just work best.
It is advisable to have a high-protein breakfast
There is no real drawback, according to the researchers, if you omit breakfast. It does not matter when we eat in the morning, it's more important what we eat in the morning, the experts explain. If a breakfast consists of highly processed carbohydrates (sugary cereals, sweet rolls), it may be unhealthier to consume it than not having breakfast at all. The high insulin level can cause the body to store more fat, the researchers explain. Thus, it is harder for sufferers to lose weight. In addition, breakfast with lots of refined carbohydrates can make people hungrier later in the day than normal, the authors add.
It's better to have a high-protein breakfast for longer without starving. Foods without carbohydrates, especially protein and fat, slow down our digestion. Another study found some time ago that a high-protein breakfast can help people control their appetite better and eat less for the rest of the day, the researchers explain. (As)
