Good for digestion
Asparagus is attributed, among other things, to a positive effect on the nervous system, cell growth (skin, hair) and digestion. In addition, the vegetables contain a variety of valuable vitamins (A, C, B1, B2 and E) as well as minerals and trace elements (iron, calcium, potassium, copper, magnesium, phosphorus and zinc).

Health experts, for example, recommend the most delicious vegetables for constipation, gallbladder and liver problems, diabetes or bladder problems. A disadvantage: Asparagus consumption leads to foul-smelling urine.

The Vegetarian Union Germany (Vebu) has prepared a few tips for asparagus lovers in a message from the dpa news agency.

Store asparagus in damp cloths in the refrigerator
Customers can recognize fresh asparagus when shopping at the interface. If it is brownish and dry, the vegetables are probably already a while in the display, said Wiebke Unger vom Vebu in Berlin.

If the asparagus is not eaten immediately after purchase, it is best to beat it in damp cloths and put it in the refrigerator. "Then he stays longer," says Unger. However, you should not wait longer than a few days to eat.

The Vebu also has tips on how to prepare it on their website: "Peel the white asparagus generously - rather too much than too little - because: if you overlook a piece of peel, the asparagus can be chewed later and tastes fibrous", write the experts.

And: "Peel the end a bit more thoroughly. Also should be a little bit cut off from the asparagus when it is dry. "

Green asparagus, on the other hand, has a softer shell and is therefore easier to process: to prepare green asparagus, just cut off the woody end and peel off the remaining lower third.

Organic produce from local cultivation
A classic in Germany is bissfest cooked asparagus with melted butter. Usually come to parsley potatoes and sauce hollandaise on the plate. On the internet you can find many more delicious asparagus recipes.

Although asparagus is also imported from Peru or Greece to Germany, the Vebu recommends for ecological reasons to buy the rods from local cultivation.

Unger also advises organic asparagus. Because according to the expert, the conventional vegetables are often contaminated with weedkillers. (Ad)
