Diet: Not hungry in industrial nations?
According to an article in the media portal „The West“, Journalist and Dietician Sven-David Müller claims that there is no hunger in industrialized nations, as all foods are constantly available. In contrast to the portal of the WAZ media group, diabetes advisor DDG Müller, referring to conditions such as diabetes and heart attack, further explained that people who would listen to their gut feeling, „rather sick than healthy“ would. He argues that we should listen more to the mind than to our gut feeling.
In terms of content, Müller therefore represents a position that relies more on logic than on experience and runs counter to current developments in the industrial nations. For as the American political scientist Professor James R. Flynn found out, since the 1990s, the IQ value has not increased on average in the industrialized nations. Flynn, who has been teaching Emeritus Political Science in New Zealand since 1963, also named the Flynn effect. This 1984 described the phenomenon that until the 1990s, the IQ value in the industrialized nations rose steadily. Flynn explained that in industrialized countries, reality is explained by logic rather than experience - that is, that people's thinking has fundamentally changed and leads to better results in the logic tests.
The downward trend could suggest that the trend is back to an explanation of reality through experience and individual points of view that often run counter to logic. This goes in the direction of the so-called „Culinary body intelligence“, which is represented by the nutritionist Uwe Knop. Knop steps for „more mature citizens“ and demands self-confidence and intuition in dealing with one's own diet. He has substantiated his theses by reviewing about 200 nutritional studies and in the book „Hunger and desire“ explained. The „Culinary body intelligence“, to the Knop his readers also in the article of „The West“ summons Müller as there „complete humbug“.
The German Nutrition Society (DGE), which recently asked Knop not to use a particular quote from spokeswoman Antje Gahl anymore (See: Is DGE going against Uwe Knop?) Wanted to get loud „The West“ do not comment on the events. The DGE spokeswoman once said in an article on Knops theories: „Quite fundamentally and for healthy people his thesis is probably correct.“ (tf, 11.12.2010)
