Cycling reduces the risk of a cold

13/09/2013

With the autumn weather come the colds. However, a few simple measures can significantly reduce the individual disease risk. This includes the movement by bicycle, explained Hans-Michael Mühlenfeld from the family doctors association Bremen in a recent press release of the news agency „dpa“.

Coughing, runny nose, hoarseness often accompanied by fever and unpleasant body aches are typical for many German sufferers of the autumn. With the onset of the cold and humid weather, a cold wave rolls over the land every year. It hangs „An infection often related to where someone is and how he moves“, reports Hans-Michael Mühlenfeld. If many people get together in a small space, such as on the bus, in the department store or in the elevator, the risk of infection increases, even if the immune system is fully efficient. For people with an already weakened immune system, such situations pose a drastically increased risk of infection. Mühlenfeld advises therefore to cover the daily distances - if possible - by bicycle. In this way, the risk of infection is reduced and at the same time can be strengthened by the movement in the fresh air, the immune system. (Fp)
