Patient is suffering from malaria
In the Netherlands, according to a message from the news agency dpa, an Ebola suspicion has not been confirmed for the time being. The health authorities said the patient was suffering from malaria after the first blood tests. However, due to the long incubation period, further test results would have to be awaited, a spokesman said. The man had returned ill from Sierra Leone on Saturday night and was taken to the Rotterdam University Hospital after collapsing with a doctor. Overall, since the outbreak of the Ebola epidemic in West Africa in the Netherlands, about 15 suspected cases have become known, but none of them has been confirmed.
All clear in the US
Health authorities in the United States had given the all-clear on the weekend in the context of Ebola. Accordingly, nine people who had contact with an infected person showed no signs of illness. So far, there is neither a vaccine nor a cure for Ebola. Most patients are treated only with typical symptoms such as fever, diarrhea, nausea and internal and external bleeding. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), 3,431 people have already died from the Ebola outbreak in West Africa. In the most affected countries Liberia, Guinea and Sierra Leone, the number of infected people is given as 7,470. (Ad)
