E-cigarettes increase the risk of heart attack and potency disorders
Discussions about health hazards through steaming
For some time experts have been discussing the pros and cons of e-cigarettes. Many smokers use these in the hope of doing little harm to their own health. But as harmless as I thought, the electric glowstalk is not. A few months ago, scientists at California University in Los Angeles found out that e-cigarettes can also increase the risk of heart attacks and strokes, as well as cause problems for men in men. A recent study from Sweden confirms this result.
Swedish researchers measure body reaction directly after consumption
The Swedish Danderyd University Hospital researchers in Stockholm had examined 15 young and healthy volunteers who rarely, i. a maximum of ten cigarettes a month, smoking. E-cigarettes had not been used by all participants before the study, according to the European Lung Foundation. Subjects were divided into two groups, one of which "steamed" with nicotine and the other without. Immediately after consuming the e-cigarettes, the researchers measured blood pressure, heart rate and arterial stiffness, repeating this two and four hours later.
Liquid with nicotine has significant effects
It was found that in the first 30 minutes after smoking e-cigarettes with nicotine there was a significant increase in blood pressure, heart rate and arterial stiffness. In the subjects who had used liquid without nicotine, however, these effects did not exist. The onset of arterial stiffness can most likely be ascribed to nicotine, study director Dr. Lundbäck. The same temporary effects would also occur after using conventional cigarettes.
"Chronic exposure to active and passive cigarette smoking leads to a permanent increase in arterial stiffness. Therefore, we speculate that chronic exposure to nicotine-based e-cigarettes in the long-term can cause permanent effects on arterial stiffness. " Lundbäck according to the message. To this end, however, there are no study results so far. Lundbäck and his colleagues continue to study the effects of e-cigarettes on human blood vessel and lung function.
Independent studies on long-term effects needed
"Our research affects a great many people and our results can prevent future health problems for a large number of people. It is of paramount importance to study the possible long-term effects of daily e-cigarette use through studies funded independently of the e-cigarette industry, "emphasizes Dr. med. Lundbäck. (No)
