Ensures a diet high in pasta for obesity?
People who want to get rid of excess pounds often try to avoid carbohydrates as much as possible. Pasta dishes are then rarely on the menu. But noodles do not seem to make you fat. At least not if they are enjoyed in moderation and eaten with plenty of vegetables. This shows a new study from Italy.

How do you get rid of overweight??
Losing excess pounds is very difficult for many people. While regular exercise is important for getting rid of excess weight, it is more important to have a proper diet. However, experts and non-experts have been arguing for a long time which diets are more suitable and healthier. Is it better to use less fat or less carbs when losing weight? Various studies have shown that low-carb performs better than low-fat. For example, a few months ago, US scientists reported in the journal "The Lancet" that a low-fat diet brings less than one with reduced carbohydrates.

Carbohydrates are "not essential"
According to Andreas Pfeiffer of the German Institute for Nutrition Research (DIfE) in Potsdam, one can in principle even live without carbohydrates "because they are not essential". For example, the Inuit, an indigenous ethnic group that lives mainly in Canada, are traditionally carbohydrate-free. They only eat egg whites and fats. In other parts of the world, a carbohydrate diet would be unimaginable. Especially not in Italy, the country that stands for pizza and pasta. There, scientists have now shown in a study that pasta does not make you fat. At least not if they are enjoyed in moderation and are eaten with plenty of vegetables and only a little meat.

Noodles are obviously better than their reputation
Obviously, the noodles banned as fatteners are better than their reputation. This is the finding of researchers from the "Istituto Neurologico Mediterraneo" in Pozzilli. It has been known for some time that the healthy Mediterranean cuisine can help you lose weight. Of course, Italian scientists also know about the positive effects of their diet. The experts write in a statement from the institute: "From the many studies that have already been carried out, the Mediterranean cuisine is known for its health benefits - including weight control." However, little has been done so far about the specific role of individual components such as pasta known. However, the analysis of two population studies now shows that people who like to eat pasta do not necessarily have an increased risk of being overweight, but in most cases even perform better than pasta ascetics.

Eating habits and state of health are examined
The scientists around George Pounis analyzed in their study, the data from two large-scale epidemiological studies. The focus of these studies was on the dietary habits and state of health of more than 23,000 volunteers from Italy. The research team used this dataset to examine the relationship between pasta consumption and body measurements such as body mass index (BMI) and hip circumference, as well as the prevalence of obesity and obesity in the population. Their results are now published in the journal "Nutrition and Diabetes".

It depends on the right amount
According to the data, the data showed no correlation between pronounced noodle consumption and obesity. "On the contrary, our data shows that eating pasta provides a healthier body mass index, lower waist circumference and a better waist-to-hip ratio," says Pounis. In addition, in the populations that consumed the most noodles, there were few cases of overweight or obesity diagnosed. Despite the surprising results, it is - as with so many things - even with noodles on the right level. According to the researchers, the data showed that people who had more pasta on the plate more consistently followed a Mediterranean diet. They also had a lot of vegetables, olive oil and fish on the menu, but less meat. The authors of the study conclude: "The Mediterranean cuisine in all its variety, including pasta, is good for your health." Pasta is an integral part of Italian food culture. According to the researchers, there is no reason to give it up. (Ad)
