Discount store gingerbread are test winners
The Stiftung Warentest has examined 21 gingerbread varieties: Lower acrylamide loads were just the discounter gingerbread on.

The acrylamide contamination in gingerbread has been a widely discussed topic for some years at Christmas time. Because spicy gingerbreads from chocolate gingerbread to printen, Nuremberg wafer or Elisen gingerbread are an integral part of the pre-Christmas period.
The Stiftung Warentest has therefore examined 21 gingerbread, with 13 brown gingerbread gingerbread, five Nuremberg wafer gingerbread and three Elisen gingerbread (all unfilled) were examined. The result is quite positive, according to the Stiftung Warentest. 13 products received the grade „Well“, six the grade „satisfying“ and only two were considered „sufficient“ rated. Worse than „sufficient“ cut off none of the gingerbread products. The tests assessed not only the acrylamide content, but also the taste and packaging of the products, for example.
The surprising: not the well-known brand manufacturers took the top rankings, but the products of discounters scored the best in the rating of the Stiftung Warentest. For example, among the Nuremberg Oblaten gingerbreads, Lidl's product scored the best rating for 44 cents per 100 g, but the Oblaten gingerbread from Aldi (Nord) for 43 cents per 100 g also received one „quality“ Grade. The chocolate gingerbreads from Real, Lidl, Netto, Weiss and Penny were also presented „Well“ graded. However, the reached „Winter dream Gingerbread“ from Aldi (South) only a sufficient rating. „Smells and tastes very spicy, but one-sided dominant to cinnamon. Moist, slightly sticky and slightly scratchy in the mouth“, the testers of Stiftung Warentest stated. The Elisen gingerbread was the „Prince cuts“ the company Bahlsen with the grade „Well“ Winner. The „Gold Elisen“ von Wicklein received only one „satisfying“, the Nuremberg Elisen gingerbread Haeberlein butcher only one „sufficient“. Which manufacturers are behind the gingerbread of the discounters, is still a good kept secret. But the quality seems to vote according to the results of Stiftung Warentest in most cases.
According to Stiftung Warentest, the reason for the rather modest performance of the Nuremberg brand manufacturers is not the quality of the gingerbread directly, but the inadequate packaging of the products. The packaging was „without weld, only with clip, anyone can reach into it“, In its December issue, Stiftung Warentest criticized the traditional packaging of brand manufacturers. Also, the product of Haeberlein-Metzger the nutritional information and allergy information on the packaging would have been missing.
In terms of acrylamide content, the cut „Pulsnitzer“ Frenzel was the worst, but here too the signal value of 1000 micrograms per kilogram set by the Federal Office of Consumer Protection and Food Safety was not exceeded. For example, experts at the Stiftung Warentest were unable to prove the increased acrylamide content in gingerbread, recently announced by the Federal Office of Consumer Protection and Food Safety (BVL). The problem with health is not the burden of the carcinogenic acrylamide, but rather the sewing value of most products. Chocolate gingerbread with an average of 380 kilocalories are true calorie bombs, explained Stiftung Warentest. (Fp)
