The jury of NHV Theoprastus has named the onion (Allium cepa) the medicinal plant of the year 2015. Thus, the manifold healing effects of the native plant are brought into focus more.

„It is one of the most popular vegetables in Germany. What only a few know: the onion is also a versatile medicinal plant and thus an everyday remedy“, said Konrad Jungnickel, the 1st chairman of the association NHV Theophrastus. Thus, the manifold healing effects of the native plant are now more in focus. The onion is health-supporting, because it works z. B. digestive, anti-inflammatory and it strengthens the immune system.

Old home remedies such as onion syrup for coughing, onion wrap for earache, onion juice for hair loss or for the relief of insect bites should be more attention again. (Pm)
