Before the Diabetes World Congress, which will take place in Dresden from April 8 to 11, the President of the World Congress on Diabetes Prevention, Prof. Dr. med. med. Peter Egbert Hermann Schwarz, denounced that prevention programs were still missing and that diabetes was on its way to an epidemic.Black already called in kindergartens and schools to begin with the education and prevention. According to Schwarz, in Germany meanwhile almost 9 million people have diabetes. This means that almost one in ten people in Germany now has diabetes. The numbers are estimated to be higher, because in about four million people, the disorder is not diagnosed.
Around 90 percent of diabetics suffer from Type 2, which develops over the course of life. Here, the sugar in the blood is poorly absorbed by the cells. One problem is that people with type 2 diabetes are getting younger and younger.
Against this background, the instructions of Professor med. Schwarz, who works at the University Hospital Carl Gustav Carus in Dresden, is considered to be extremely necessary. Some prevention options are measures that actually come from the field of naturopathy, such as fresh as possible untreated food, a lot of exercise and thus a weight loss.
Around the world, around 300 million people have diabetes and four million of them die of heart attack or stroke. That's why the World Congress on Diabetes Prevention in Dresden, organized by a subsidiary of the TU Dresden, the Dresden International University (DIU), is so important. About 1400 people from more than 55 countries are expected to participate. One goal will be for a research team of international cast to finally create official guidelines for future prevention that will not only address medical issues.
