Important answers about diabetes

21/10/2013

The term diabetes mellitus, popularly known as diabetes, is a group of metabolic disorders. In the foreground is the pancreas, which produces too little or no insulin. This defect leads to a hypoglycaemia of the body, which is characteristic of the disease. Diabetes is again divided into two types:

Type 2 diabetes
This form is most common in the population. Here, the body cells no longer respond sufficiently to the hormone insulin, which takes on the task to transport the sugar into the individual cells. Risk factors for this form are above all obesity, lack of exercise and a genetic predisposition. Often, older people are affected by the disease.

Type 1 Diabetes
In this form, the immune system virtually destroys the pancreas and the body can no longer produce insulin. As a result, sufferers have to inject insulin for a lifetime. Above all, adolescents and young adults are affected.

The list of possible symptoms is long. Among them are:
- Frequent urination
- Strong thirsty feelings
- Dry or itchy skin
- fatigue
- weight loss
- Wounds heal worse
- Increased susceptibility to infections
- Breath smells like acetone

The symptoms can occur in both types of Diabatis, with type 2 often not showing any signs for a long time as the blood sugar level rises only slowly. Type 1, however, Tel develops faster and the symptoms are clearly diagnosed. Diabetes mellitus is considered incurable, but is good to treat. This requires a lot of knowledge and personal responsibility for the patient. Patients should definitely seek medical assistance. Stand for a quick clarification of their questions
