Healthier than often assumed
For a long time the pick-me-up was considered harmful to health, but today people know that coffee is healthier than is often assumed.

It can be good for the heart, prevent arteriosclerosis and stimulate digestion.

In addition, according to scientific studies, coffee can reduce the risk of colorectal cancer.

Researchers from the German Institute for Nutritional Research (DifE) have also reported a few years ago in the journal "American Journal of Clinical Nutrition" on protective effects in liver cancer with regular coffee consumption.

And only recently, scientists from the UK found that coffee can protect against the most common form of liver cancer.

Drink only moderate amounts
Health experts say that even hypertensive patients could enjoy coffee, albeit in moderation.

Careful, however, should be people who suffer from so-called arrhythmias. In such cases, it is better to consult with a doctor.

In addition, in principle: Whoever drinks too much (gallons) of coffee risks risking the development of anxiety, hyperactivity and gastrointestinal complaints.

Popular pick-me-up
However, most people do not think about the health benefits or disadvantages of drinking coffee anyway. They drink the hot drink rather for pleasure and as a pick-me-up. In fact, coffee works well against fatigue.

However, he loses in higher doses of many effects. In this context we speak of the so-called tolerance development.

For the same effect you have to eat more. This habituation is also reversible. If the coffee consumption is reduced again, less caffeine will have more effect after a certain time.

How the Germans like to drink their coffee
But how do the Germans like to drink their coffee? This question was the German Coffee Association in a study, in which more than 10,000 people were interviewed.

The survey showed that almost every German drink coffee - 80 percent a day and three out of five Germans even several times a day.

Only four percent of respondents said they rarely or never consume coffee. The main reason for most coffee drinkers (37 percent), to grab the popular hot drink, are therefore the special moment of enjoyment and the aroma.

Coffee should be big and fresh, according to most Germans. For example, 93 percent of respondents said that their fresh preparation is characteristic, 76 percent associate coffee with the pleasure of having a large cup, and 70 percent think it is drunk without sugar.

Very important: "Freshly prepared coffee should be drunk as soon as possible and not kept warm for too long (max 60 minutes in a thermos), because the aroma evaporates quickly and then the coffee tastes bitter," said the German coffee association in a statement on " Day of coffee ". (Ad)
