Demonstrations on the legalization of cannabis in 31 German cities

For the Global Marijuana March at the beginning of May many events take place in Germany. There will be demonstrations and rallies for the legalization of cannabis in 31 cities, more than ever before.

This represents a significant increase compared to previous years: While only four German cities participated in 2012, there were eleven in 2013, already 17 in 2014 and 26 last year! From Rostock to Munich and from Cologne to Berlin there is an event for the Global Marijuana March in most parts of Germany.

The number of participants also increases significantly. In 2013, all events in Germany counted around 2,000 participants, more than 4,000 in 2014 and 7,000 in 2015. For this year, further increasing numbers are expected.

Most of the actions take place on 07.May 2016, but some also in the weeks before and after. All events are organized by local groups on site. The German Hanfverband accompanied, supported and networked the organizers. The nationwide motto is "Times are changing!" - because the international drug policy is currently changing very much.

Georg Wurth, Managing Director of the German Hemp Association:
"More and more people are discussing cannabis and legalization worldwide, and many countries are reforming their laws. The fact that thousands of citizens are now demonstrating in more than 30 German cities for legalization is a strong message to politicians to reconsider the strict prohibition in this country as well. "
