Surveys on health behavior
How healthy are German citizens? The dpa news agency reports that Deutsche Krankenversicherung (DKV), together with researchers from the German Sport University Cologne (DSHS), today wants to present representative findings from surveys on health behavior. The risks of long sitting are the focus of the report. For example, the private fund has asked over 3,000 Germans how often they move and what they eat. In addition, around 3,400 parents were asked to rate the physical activity of their 6-12 year old children. According to studies, permanent sitting increases the risk of chronic diseases and certain cancers.
Health risks due to prolonged sitting
For example, scientists at the University of Leicester (UK) wrote in a study last year that prolonged sitting increases the risk of diabetes and heart disease. Too much sitting increases the colorectal cancer risk, according to a US study. In addition, the many sitting, often associated with a wrong posture, such as buttocks pain, neck pain, fat legs, shoulder piercing or upper arm pain can occur. (Ad)
