The silent face experiment

What happens if mothers neglect their children? This video shows the massive effects on a child. It also shows how children experience the love of the mother, especially through facial expressions and physical attention. But if the mother stares blankly or is just busy with the smartphone, the baby immediately starts to cry in order to regain her mother's attention. If the mother still does not stir then the baby is confused and frustrated. It reacts with bitter tears.

The experiment was developed by psychology professor Ed Tronick. He says: „It is really striking how children do not stop trying to regain their parents' attention. After unsuccessful attempts, they finally turn away disappointed and sad, and then try again the next moment.“
