(24.05.2010) In the face of a lack of progress in combating the oil disaster in the Gulf of Mexico, the federal leader of the party Alliance 90 / The Greens, Claudia Roth, indirectly called for a boycott of BP and Aral gas stations. Aral is a subsidiary of British Patrol (BP). For example, the Greens leader told Handelsblatt on Sunday: "Consumers should use responsible buying behavior to signal against a group that has knowingly accepted lower safety standards." Because of this, "it is a sign to set", because "the oil spill affects us all," said the politician. In Germany there are about 2400 Aral petrol stations. The company BP has not responded to the boycott call of the Federal politician so far.

Roth also called for more power for the United Nations (UN) to act more effectively against polluters. The UN should set up its own "environmental agency" to impose effective punishments against polluters. The oil company BP accused the Green Party leader, "a crime against man and nature guilty". In addition, the disaster would have once again made it clear that a move away from oil was absolutely necessary.

Even a month after the fire on the "Deepwater Horizon" oil rig, tons of oil are still leaking into the sea. So far, an outflow of oil in the Gulf of Mexico could not be completely stopped. There is no sign of an end to the environmental catastrophe. (Sb)
