Chinese herbs improve symptoms of MS: Different courses of the disease require individualized therapies

06/21/2012

People with multiple sclerosis often fear a prescribed path of suffering. What about one „Will foreign“ of the body, fatigue, discomfort and disturbed motion control begins, often only ends in a need for care. As a rule, multiple sclerosis starts with relapses - ie usually abruptly occurring neurological complaints. But there are ways to relieve symptoms, for example, through concepts from Chinese medicine. Although they can not cure the disease, but it is often possible to stop at least the predetermined course. In addition, it can reduce the often side effect rich medication. The earlier affected people take alternative routes, the better.

„Multiple sclerosis is considered an autoimmune disease. Thus, misdirected inflammatory processes in the body cause the symptoms“, describes Dr. Christian Schmincke, Head of the Clinic at the Steigerwald, general practitioner and TCM expert. „From the point of view of Chinese medicine, insufficiently defended virus infections play a decisive role in the disease.“ This coincides with observations of those affected. Often the attacks are preceded by colds. These not only affect the disease, but also cause it: „Colds, infections of nasal, bronchial or bladder mucosa that do not live through consistently, ie cured with mucus excretion, set this immunological dysfunction in motion“, clarifies Schmincke the backgrounds. This dependence on previous infections uses Chinese medicine as a starting point for therapy. Purpose of treatment according to Chinese guidelines: empower patients to catch infections early. Thus, the inflammatory impulse does not sink into so-called deeper layers and relapses of illness can be prevented.

This difficult therapy requires a patient-specific Chinese drug formulation and patient education. He is to recognize occurring infections early, so that he can support the practitioner in the therapy. After a detailed diagnosis, he puts together Chinese medicines that support the immune system on the one hand, and help the body in the other hand, on the other hand „Contaminated Sites“ dispose. However, another key element in the recovery process must be handled by those affected with the help of the doctor alone. „MS patients usually have only insufficient perception of their own performance limits“, knows Dr. Schmincke from the experience. „They tend to overwhelm themselves.“ For him, therefore, it is beyond question why many MS patients suffer from weakness, paralysis and exhaustion. Acupuncture and physiotherapy support patients because they aim to regulate muscular and psychological tension. „Overall, our experience shows that many MS-typical complaints are improved with Chinese medicine. Often it is also possible to slow down the progression or to completely prevent it“, emphasizes Schmincke. „Healing is - as of today - but in the rarest cases to be expected and if the disease is not too long.“
