20/10/2014

Currently, there is a large typing campaign of the German Bone Marrow Donor File (DKMS), which is intended to find suitable donors for the one-year, cancer-suffering Ella from Brandenburg. The girl suffers from a special form of blood cancer. At the weekend, 1,254 people typed in to help the girl.

One-year-old girl is suffering from special form of leukemia
The one-year-old Ella from the Fürstenberg in Brandenburg suffers from a special form of blood cancer. Like the „B.Z.“ reported, the parents were with the girl soon after birth for months drove from doctor to doctor until a professor at the Berlin Charité finally put the right diagnosis. According to the study, the one-year-old girl suffers from a special form of leukemia called Langerhans cell histiocytosis (LCH). The disease, which causes bone pain, among other things, is actually treatable. „But our Ella has the worst form of LCH“ explained the mother to the newspaper. She continued: „Ella is now fed artificially, has pain, fever, vomits bile and can barely lift his arm.“

Lifesaving wanted
According to the information, the girl had to undergo several chemotherapy and blood transfusions. The doctors want to bridge the waiting period until a bone marrow donation. Under the motto: „Ella is looking for you - be her lifesaver!“ is currently running a large Typisierungsaktion the German Bone Marrow Donor File (DKMS) to save the lives of one-year-olds. In this context, 1,254 people from the region in Fürstenberg / Havel were typed this weekend. Since the girl's father is from this area, there is a higher probability of finding a suitable donor due to genetic similarities. The samples were taken to a laboratory in Dresden. The second typing is scheduled to take place in Bavaria at the end of October. From there comes the mother.

Register as a stem cell donor
In Germany, according to the Cancer Information Service, around 11,500 people suffer from leukemia each year, distinguishing between different types of disease. Many sufferers could help a stem cell donation. People who are ready for a donation can register with a saliva sample in the DKMS. In principle, stem cell donors can become any healthy adult between the ages of 18 and 55 years. Criteria for excluding a donation include cardiovascular diseases such as heart attack, metabolic diseases such as diabetes, cancer or severe kidney disease. (Ad)
