Bladder infections are usually caused by ascending bacteria, with women being significantly more affected than men due to their shorter urethra. You should therefore swimsuits immediately after the bath, explains the professional association of German urologists. Even men recommend the experts, wet swimming trunks as soon as possible after swimming. Because through the wet-cold environment increase the likelihood of bacterial infection.

Avoid bladder infections by simple measures
Apart from bathing, the professional association of German urologists advises a number of other precautions to be taken to minimize the risk of cystitis. This includes the intake of about two liters of fluid per day (as long as there is no kidney or heart disease), the immediate passage to the toilet as soon as urinary urgency occurs and the avoidance of excessive cleaning of the genital area (not with soap and disinfectant, intimate sprays or intimate lotions). The best cleaning for the genital area is a hip bath in warm water without any additives. After intercourse, water should be given as soon as possible and "temporary sexual abstinence may reduce the rate of recurrence of urinary tract infections," the professional association continues. When urinating the experts advise not to squeeze with the abdominal muscles, but to relax as possible to facilitate the emptying of the bladder. If urine stays behind, the bacteria can stay longer in the bladder and spread more and more. (Fp)
