Organic ornamental plants - this is how the cultivation succeeds
Not only for food, the signs are organic. Cost savings in plant protection, fewer failures and stress-tolerant plants in excellent quality - all these are arguments that speak from an operational point of view for an ecological mode of production. But due to a lack of experience and expertise, many horticultural companies are still afraid of a changeover. In addition, every gardener knows from his own experience: Each culture has special requirements in terms of substrate, fertilization and crop protection. Picture: animaflora - fotolia
In order to support budding organic gardeners, various culture datasheets have been developed as part of the organic ornamental plant project of the Federal Program Organic Farming and other forms of sustainable agriculture (BÖLN). They provide practical information on individual crops under organic farming conditions. The crops described include cyclamen, geraniums, spring violas, capsicum, grasses, upholstery, cut roses and cut marigolds.
In addition to botanical and horticultural information, the culture data sheets contain detailed information on nutrient requirements, fertilization and the use of beneficial insects and plant strengthening agents. The basis for the preparation of the culture data sheets were experiments and many years of experience of consultants in the company support of ornamental plants. Nina Weiler, aid.de
