Getting drunk without regrets? Researchers invent hangover-free alcohol
The disco visit, the birthday party or the company party: On some evenings one or the other looks a bit too deep into the glass. The next morning you wake up with a bad headache, dizziness and nausea. This should change in the future. British researchers have allegedly developed an alcohol that is no longer causing hangovers.
In the future, no more alcoholic hangover
The morning after many a party often starts with a bad hangover. A headache, dizziness, abdominal pain, nausea and vomiting often make us swear, never again, to exaggerate with alcohol. In the future, such intentions may not be necessary, because by 2050, according to British researchers, there will be no more alcoholic hangover.
New substance is supposed to mimic the effect of alcohol
David Nutt, professor of neuropsychopharmacology at Imperial College, London, claims to have developed a synthetic alcohol that does not damage the liver and cause hangovers. The effect of the substance called "Alcosynth" is intended to mimic the action of conventional alcohol without causing unpleasant consequences such as headache, nausea and dry mouth.
Edible drinks that do not harm the liver
In contrast to the British "Independent", the scientist stated that he had already filed patent applications for 90 variations of "Alcosynth". Two of them are currently being tested for their compatibility. According to Nutt, you can mix edible drinks with the substances without damaging the liver or the heart. "In a Mojito, they are doing very well," says the professor. "One is almost tasteless, the other tastes a bit bitter."
Without unpleasant side effects
In the last 30 years, much has been found out about the effect of alcohol in the brain, according to the British researcher. Now you could mimic these effects without causing the unpleasant side effects. However, it will still take some time because the substances would have to be extensively tested. By the year 2050, however, the market launch can be expected. "People want healthier drinks," said Nutt. "The beverage industry knows that alcohol will be gone by 2050."
Superdrink from North Korea
If you do not want to wait so long, you should stock up on a new drink from North Korea. The super drink "Koryo Liquor" should also be intoxicating without causing a hangover. And it already exists - but only in the Northeast Asian country. According to the state newspaper "Pyongyang Times", the drink tastes equally "sweet and hearty" and is "highly appreciated".
In North Korea's media is repeatedly reported on (supposed) gigantic achievements of the country. Last year, for example, when the development of "Kumdang-2" was reported. This remedy can protect against incurable viral diseases such as Mers, Ebola or HIV and also cure tuberculosis and cancer. It helps even with pregnancy sickness and "damage resulting from the excessive use of computers," it said at that time. Evidence for the miraculous powers are not available.
The best method against a hangover
There are also doubts about the development of the British scientist. For example, a spokesperson for the UK Department of Health told the Independent that it was an interesting idea, but "at the moment, it's still too early to take a position on development."
So if you do not want to wait until 2050 or live in North Korea, you should continue to rely on home remedies and tricks from experts to fight the alcohol hangover. Although natural home remedies for nausea or other ailments sometimes work wonders, it's best not to let it go that far. The most effective method against a hangover is alcohol abstinence. (Ad)
