Daily, the feet should be thoroughly - also between the toe rooms - washed with a soap, which does not attack the skin. Then the feet should be dried very thoroughly, also between the toes, reports Eymers. "Those who are particularly susceptible to athlete's foot can also blow-dry their feet," says the doctor. For hygienic reasons, she advises also to use an extra towel when changing the feet, which is changed daily.
Without socks only in leather shoes
Regarding socks and footwear, the doctor explained that socks or footlets should not be too tight and are best changed every day. Non-breathable, synthetic material is inappropriate here. Instead, the socks should be made of cotton, wool or possibly breathable other material to ensure ventilation and prevent the formation of sweat odor, reports Eymers. Furthermore, the physician advises to change the shoes as daily as possible and to ventilate them for at least one day before carrying them next - preferably outside in the fresh air. For this, the soles should be removed, if possible. The shoes should not be too tight. Basically, leather shoes are best because they fit best to the needs of the foot, so Eymers on. "If you absolutely want to wear shoes and socks made of synthetic materials, such as running shoes, you should pay close attention to subsequent hygiene around your shoes and feet," emphasizes the doctor of the AOK-Bundesverband.
